What a stablecoin actually does for the money in your pocket.

Most people in South Africa do not need a lecture on what a stablecoin is. They need to know what it does for them. So here is the short version. ZARsc is the Rand, on rails that actually move. It settles in seconds, costs almost nothing, and never sleeps. The Supercoin wallet, launching in November 2026, is how you will use it every day. This is a piece about what that actually looks like when you stop waiting on your money.

The everyday problem nobody calls a problem

Think about the last time you sent someone money.

Maybe it was for petrol. Maybe it was a deposit for a flat. Maybe it was R200 to a sibling who needed groceries. You opened your banking app, found the recipient, typed the amount, and waited. The screen said the money was on its way. The person on the other end said nothing arrived. You waited some more. You checked again. You sent a screenshot of the confirmation. They checked their account. Still nothing.

That gap, between sending and receiving, is the everyday problem nobody calls a problem. We have been trained to expect it. We schedule around it. We tell people the money is coming, please be patient. It does not have to be like that.

That gap, between sending and receiving, is the everyday problem nobody calls a problem. We have been trained to expect it.What ZARsc actually is, in one paragraph

ZARsc is a Rand-pegged stablecoin. One ZARsc is designed to be worth one Rand. It lives on a public blockchain called Solana, which is built for fast, low-cost movement of value. It is operated by Super Money South Africa, a company that is part of Super Group, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It is an FSCA-licensed Crypto Asset Service Provider under FAIS Act 37 of 2002. It is custodied by Fireblocks. It is monitored by Chainalysis. None of those names matter to most people. What matters is what they add up to: a Rand that can move at the speed of the internet, with serious infrastructure underneath.

Four things the Supercoin wallet will do

When the wallet launches in November, here is what it will do. We are saying this clearly because we want to be held to it, and because we do not want anyone to expect more than the wallet actually delivers on day one.

1. Send money in seconds

Pay friends and family. Split a bill. Send your mom money for groceries. The transfer happens in seconds, not days. There are no fees between wallets on the network. The person on the other end sees it arrive while you are still on the call with them.

2. Tap and pay at the till

Spend ZARsc at thousands of merchants across the country via Zapper. Tap your phone at the till. The merchant gets paid. You walk out with your shopping. The same way you already pay for things, on rails that settle quickly underneath.

3. Top up airtime, data and electricity

Buy airtime for any network. Top up data. Pay for prepaid electricity. All from inside the app, all in seconds. No more switching between apps. No more standing at a counter.

4. Cash out when you need cash

Withdraw at participating PayCorp ATMs across the country. When you need notes in your hand, the wallet will give you a way to get them. That is what launches in November. We are not promising more than that for now. There are things we want to build next, and we will, but the way to earn trust in money is to do what you said you would do, on the day you said you would do it.

Why a stablecoin, and not just another app

There are plenty of apps that let you send money. Some are very good. We are not pretending to be the only option, or even the first. The Intergovernmental Fintech Working Group's stablecoin landscape diagnostic identified six local-currency stablecoins already issued in South Africa. We are one of several teams working on this. What is different about a stablecoin is what sits underneath the app. A normal payment app is a thin layer on top of existing payment rails. A stablecoin is a different kind of rail entirely. It does not need to wait for traditional clearing windows. There are fewer intermediaries between sender and receiver. The underlying network is public, which means anyone can build on it.The app is the part you see. The rail is the part that changes what is possible. ZARsc is the rail.

The trust layer underneath

You should not have to trust a piece of money on faith. Here is what is underneath ZARsc, in plain English.

The asset is a Rand-pegged stablecoin on Solana. One ZARsc, one Rand. Designed for digital settlement and programmable payments. The licence is an FSCA Crypto Asset Service Provider licence under FAIS Act 37 of 2002. The same regulatory framework that supervises financial advisers and intermediaries in South Africa. The custody is Fireblocks. The custody technology used by major institutional operators around the world.

The compliance is Chainalysis. Real-time monitoring for fraud, money laundering, and sanctions risk. The network is Solana. Built for high-throughput settlement at low transaction costs.

The parent is Super Group. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Operating across multiple regulated markets. You can read more about all of this on our Trust page. We named every layer for a reason.

Be first when the doors open

The Supercoin wallet launches in November 2026. If you want to be among the first people to use it, leave us your email and we will let you know when it is live. Your email will be handled in line with our privacy policy.

In the meantime, ZARsc is already available on Luno. If you want to buy, hold, or send the coin before the wallet launches, that is the place to start.

Wait for no one. Disclaimer
